Notable new features have been officially announced for Edge 540/840/1040 and will almost certainly make their way to Edge 1050.

Change Log 28.10

  • Added Forksight Enhancements from Edge MTB – this expands the data already offered by Forksight on the upcoming trail options when you approach a junction (fork)
  • Added the ability to toggle Virtual Partner off for courses – this long-requested feature will make a particular group of people very happy.
  • Added support for viewing adaptive training plans for triathlons – this doesn’t add new features on the device per se. Instead, it means that workouts generated by multisport plans can now be executed on Edge.
  • Changed segment target data to always show during segment efforts on the map and segment data screens
  • Home-page profile button now shows current-ride distance while recording

Performance Boosts

  • Enabled Short-Term Ephemeris (GPES) for faster satellite acquisition
  • Updated GNSS, sensor, ANT, BLE, NFC and Bluetooth libraries for improved connectivity – this sounds good, I’m not entirely sure what it will impact in practice.

Minor fixes

  • Fixed radar halo not appearing while a turn prompt is visible
  • Updated Connected-POI dynamic glance layout
  • Removed bottom divider line and repositioned page indicator on wallet card carousel
  • Fixed issue where the shifting data field could sometimes show an incorrect battery level
  • Fixed workout-duration picker that would not scroll via touch
  • Fixed workout data fields resetting after sport profile merge
  • Fixed route-recalculation failures when using Topo 2025.10 maps
  • Fixed music-controls button highlight persisting after pressing in some cases
  • The fixed speed gauge is failing to display
  • Overall stability improvements and minor bug fixes

  1. new features to the old gen edges:

some sign that the new gen is delayed ?

    also, no eurobike edges ;(

      1. Delayed until when? Just a short delay or delayed until next season? I was planning to upgrade to the Edge 850 but might have to look at the 1050 now…

  2. Why oh why does Garmin think the map page needs permanently on + and – buttons and a hand icon at the top of the screen exactly over the upcoming route? I look at every change log hoping they fix this. It might be ok on 1xxx but not on 5xx and 8xx screens. I’m not thinking of upgrading from 830 until those permanent map icons are gone. Just me maybe… But thanks for the update.

    1. Fully agreed! It’s such an obvious issue that it seems Garmin is doing this on purpose („if you want a larger map, buy a 10xx“).
