Garmin – new Forerunner on 22 July (Tuesday)?

A: No (that’s what I got for considering ‘leaks’ from other sites rather than my regular sources #Sigh, sorry)

Garmin China has teased a marketing event on Tuesday, 22 July at noon, Chinese time.

Possibilities

  1. This could be an existing, known model, as yet unreleased in China – I checked and do not think this is the case
  2. This could be a special region-specific variant. There was a Forerunner 235L version of the 235 made in 2018, just for the Chinese market, for some reason unknown to me
  3. It’s a new model!
  4. It’s announcing a sale in a very unusual way (see comments)

Garmin Rally X10 Leaked with New Feature – Thoughts

What Is It?

  • This looks like a 5-button forerunner, and the top right button appears elongated rather than circular, as found on the cheaper forerunners
  • There is a silhouette of a man running to the left, suggesting a Forerunner
  • The watch strap width looks narrow, suggesting a smaller watch
  • The bezel width looks relatively large, suggesting a smaller display for the size and further suggesting a cheaper model
  • The image suggests the product number is four digits starting with a ‘1’. This is unusual as Garmin’s numbering schema is usually 3 digits. Sometimes there are suffixes like PRO or LTE, or S (small)

My guess would be a 170s – so the smallest of the incoming generation of forerunners.

  1. The teaser isn’t 1xx, it’s 1xxx. Could for example be a 1170: cellular this time not as a little model name suffix, but as a new device class. The wide bezel / narrow band observation could just as well mean regular size screen and band in a huge case (and if they go for flatter, like in that new square watch monster, that might not even be all that terrible)

But yeah, just another wild speculation, not a prediction.

    1. I am assuming a China-only launch in which case it wont be a very exciting product in terms of new tech (new cellualr). however, of course, it could just be that the China office took u pon itself to tease their part in a new global launch

    2. It could be a 170x (or any other NNNx) where ‘x’ is a letter, not a numeral. similar to the 235L mentioned in above?

Either way, that bezel is huge if this is anything but a tiny watch. Either that, or its some sport-specific watch that needs an extra bezel, like diving for example.

That said, I’m not so sure the person silhouette in the background is “running” per se. Looks almost like someone coming in for a kick? Might it be like a team sports watch? Maybe there the bezel provides some sort of extra “gentleness” since watches are usually allowed in team sports.

Anyway, likewise, just lots of speculation 🙂

  2. Sorry to disappoint you but I don’t believe there will be a new model coming. The analysis is sadly not correct because of translation errors. The text “1xxx” hints for the price, not a new model. From the comments in the original post, quite a lot people guess that the FR 265 will be discounted below 2000 RMB. I believe that’s the case.

  3. I like my new venu x1 you just need more bands for this model and I like the 2 button system.

  4. What a dumb article. That teaser has nothing to do with a new watch. Do your research before posting misinformation.

      1. Unrelated, but I see that the Epix Pro (47mm non-sapphire) can be bought for £370 from H.Samuel. Seems such a good deal, I’ve bought one. It’s more than I’d usually spend on a watch, but I hike quite a bit, so the maps will be useful.

        1. best ever price on amazon i think is £461/£499. so you got a steal there.

maybe they mispriced thinking it was gen 1 (some of their ads say that, some dont ie some do say gen 2).
