Garmin ArcheryX - Fenix 9's new feature Explained

ArcheryX is a new activity profile on the Garmin Fenix 9 and Fenix 9 Pro that tracks bow arm movement and body biometrics during compound bow shooting sessions. It is the first archery-specific activity on a Garmin watch and replaces the previous Archery profile, which recorded only basic activity data.

Shot data is displayed on the watch in real time and syncs to the ShotView smartphone app for session analysis and long-term trends.

What ArcheryX measures

The watch uses its accelerometer and gyroscope to track bow arm movement throughout each shot. Seven metrics are recorded per arrow:

  • Shot break analysis — tracks bow arm movement in the moments immediately before release, giving a picture of technique consistency at the critical point.
  • Minutes of angle (MOA) — measures hold steadiness during the shot and expresses it as a MOA figure, which archers can correlate against where the arrow lands.
  • Aim trace — records wrist motion throughout the shot and displays it as a trace with animated playback immediately after release.
  • Shot execution time — the elapsed time from draw to release, useful for identifying inconsistencies in shot process.
  • Arrow counter — running total of arrows per session, with daily, weekly, monthly and yearly totals in the ShotView app.
  • Heart rate — continuous wrist HR throughout the session.
  • Respiration rate and stress — both tracked throughout, which can help identify whether physiological state is affecting shot execution.

ShotView app

The ShotView smartphone app receives session data from Garmin Connect and provides a deeper view of shooting performance over time. It shows arrow counts by session, day, week, month and year, and surfaces trends in MOA, execution time and aim trace that are not visible in the per-session watch display.

Compound bow only

Garmin specifies ArcheryX for compound bows. The feature is not described as compatible with recurve or traditional bows, where the draw mechanics and release characteristics differ substantially from compound equipment.

What it replaces

The previous Archery activity profile on Fenix watches recorded the session as an activity but provided no shot-specific data. ArcheryX is a functional replacement rather than an update to the existing profile.
