BOE has shown a wearable Micro-LED panel rated at 6,000 nits, matching a similarly bright prototype Samsung Display demonstrated last year. BOE’s panel, shown at Display Innovation China Expo 2026, is a 1.39-inch, 326 PPI panel that draws 165 mW at a 350-nit setting. Samsung Display’s flexible prototype, shown at K-Display 2025, is built from 700,000 individual Micro-LED chips at the same 326 PPI. Both numbers sit well past anything a runner or hiker needs outdoors: 6,000 nits only earns its keep in the narrowest conditions, direct alpine sun or on the sea at midday, and Garmin’s Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED already shows what chasing that brightness costs.

The Fenix 8 Pro’s MicroLED variant runs at 4,500 nits and lasts four days with always-on enabled, about four times as long as the standard AMOLED model. Garmin has since quietly cut the MicroLED’s US price by $300, noting that poor power consumption is “the limit of the technology right now.” Uptake will not improve at 6,000 nits until that limit does.

When will we see this on wearables?

I don’t think we will see this any time soon. Core microLED technology might start to re-appear again in 2027, but this level of brightness only has niche uses and wont be in the first wave of adoption.

Not yet. Garmin’s Fenix 8 Pro MicroLED lasts about a quarter as long as the AMOLED equivalent, and Garmin has confirmed poor power efficiency is the current limit of the technology.
