Expert opinion

Series 11 carries the same S10 chip as Series 10, alongside a brighter LTPO3 wide-angle OLED display rated to 2,000 nits and always on. Sensor hardware is unchanged from Series 10 and includes ECG, blood oxygen, third-generation optical heart rate, skin temperature, a depth gauge and a water temperature sensor. Blood oxygen monitoring, disabled on US units of the Series 9 and 10 through a patent dispute, is reactivated globally on Series 11. FDA-cleared hypertension notifications and Sleep Score are new software features, also available to Series 9 and 10 on watchOS 26 rather than exclusive to this hardware. Storage rises to 64GB and the aluminium models gain a ceramic-coated Ion-X glass, rated twice as scratch-resistant as the uncoated glass on Series 10, though it remains a step below the sapphire crystal fitted to Ultra models. The SE 3 lacks ECG, blood oxygen and the depth gauge, so Series 11 remains the point in the range where the full sensor suite becomes available.

What’s new versus Series 10

  • Battery life claim rises to up to 24 hours, from up to 18 hours
  • 5G RedCap cellular modem, up from 4G LTE
  • Ion-X glass gains a ceramic coating, rated twice as scratch-resistant as the uncoated Series 10 glass
  • Hypertension detection added, alongside Sleep Score and globally reactivated blood oxygen monitoring
  • S11 SiP processor, up from S10
  • Space Grey aluminium finish added to the range

watchOS 26 ships on Series 11 as standard and is also available as an update for Series 10. Series 9 and Series 10 both support hypertension detection and Sleep Score once updated to watchOS 26, so those two features are a software rollout rather than a Series 11 hardware exclusive.

Battery life

Apple claims up to 24 hours of typical use, up from 18 hours on Series 10. Fast charging is fitted, so a short charge during a shower or while changing is enough to top up for the rest of the day or overnight sleep tracking, though daily charging remains necessary.

Features

Full feature detail is covered on the Apple Watch specifications index.

  • Vitals app, surfacing overnight ranges for key health metrics and flagging exceptions
  • Sleep Score, sleep stage tracking
  • Hypertension notifications, pattern detection over time rather than a direct blood pressure reading
  • Workout Buddy and the watchOS 26 Workout app redesign, shared with Ultra 3 and SE 3
