Expert opinion
Garmin’s first button-only Edge with multi-band GNSS, the Edge 540 brings ClimbPro to any hill without a loaded route, guiding riders up unfamiliar climbs. Satellite and elevation accuracy held up across the Surrey Hills, Cornwall, and urban centres over 1,000 miles of testing.
Race-day planning, from adaptive coaching to Power Guide, forms a more complete package than rivals offer, and Garmin’s map intelligence reroutes riders who stray. Firmware has since added GroupRide competitions, hazard reports, and Garmin Share. The Solar edition adds modest battery gains.
