Expert opinion
Smart Band 9 Pro gives runners their own GPS on a band weighing about 24g, so pace and route are recorded without a phone. Ten built-in running programmes, from run/walk sessions to intervals, give newer runners structure, and running posture recognition adds form feedback. Swimmers get stroke recognition and a 5 ATM rating. The health side covers sleep stages and a sleep score, all-day heart rate, blood oxygen and stress, and menstrual tracking. What it lacks for structured training is ANT+, heart rate broadcast, a barometer and any training load or recovery metrics, so a Garmin Forerunner 165 or an Amazfit GPS watch does far more with the data. Smart Band 10 Pro has since replaced it with a thinner body, a brighter screen, overnight HRV and heart rate broadcast. Battery is a claimed 21 days in typical use and 8 days with everything switched on. The 9 Pro is still a reasonable buy for a runner who wants a route map and long battery life at a lower price.

Battery life
Xiaomi claims up to 21 days in typical use, 10 days with the always-on display, and 8 days in heavy use. Typical use assumes heart rate every 30 minutes, with high-precision sleep, stress and blood oxygen tracking switched off, and 60 minutes of recorded exercise a week. Heavy use turns on the always-on display, minute-by-minute heart rate, and all the sleep, stress and blood oxygen tracking, so 8 days is the better guide for anyone who wears the band for its health data. Xiaomi does not publish a continuous GPS figure, and several hours of GPS runs a week will shorten every one of these numbers. A full charge takes about 75 minutes.
