April – Heads UP for new watches and bike computers

Many of the wonderous plans for new devices in Q1.2020 fell by the wayside due to market-disruptions and supply-chain disruptions. With no end to the

pandemic in sight, it will take a brave or overly keen manufacturer to release a new GPS watch or bike computer when much of the target market is either watching Netflix or scouring the internet to try to find that last, remaining Wahoo Kickr to go with their Zwift subscription.

Fear Not.

There ARE BRAVE or OVERLY KEEN manufactures who WILL release a device for us in April 2020.

Garmin? Lezyne? Another Suunto? Bryton? Coros? Polar? Wahoo?

There is definitely at least one good watch RELEASE and two good bike computer ANNOUNCEMENTS (but not releases) that are near certs for April (I can’t say who they are…ahem Edge 130 Plus). I plan to use this OTHER, UNNAMED bike computer a lot more in 2020. There may also be a couple of sweet but perhaps unsurprising and potentially good sports watches that might also hit the shelves. And I’m talking proper sports stuff here and not a Wear OS watch (no offence Sunnto with the Suunto 7 which I like).

So, along with those that are scheduled for next month there’s also a chance that we will see some of the ones that I speculated on here come to fruition too (please comment on the following post)

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
