Garmin Adds Cycling Coach to Plans
Today’s press release from Garmin formally announced its new cycling coach, complementing existing plans and others for strength training and running – I shared news of this with readers of the site back in June.
The new one is often the best plan for most people, essentially this is the Daily Suggested Workouts feature which adapts to your progress and readiness dynamically each day.
When you create the plan you can also add an official event website and GPX route to give course-specific insights like elevation gain and distance. As the event nears you will get race-specific weather reports (based on the race location).
Your daily training might also benefit from some of the new Garmin cycling features such as crowd-sourced Road Hazards, and notifications of impending road surface changes when you follow a route.
There are some cool updates to group training if you and your friends all use Garmins. At the start of a ride, you can share workouts, locations and courses directly from one Garmin to another and when riding there are new enhancements to Group messaging and group leaderboards. (Reported here in May 2024)

Also announced today are improvements to running race time predictions based on history, fitness and performance. Again, I highlighted that change to readers a few months ago and this specifically addresses an obvious bug that I and many others reported when a recent fast run shows you can run faster than Garmin’s estimate.
Finally, there are man manager improvements for better downloads over WiFi where your device supports it.

I’m confused as I used a Cycling Century plan just a few months ago. What’s new about these?
Same here. I’m in week 11 of a grand fondo plan. Not doing an actual race, just started it for training suggestions and it’s going well
All 6 plans are not adaptive, so a very poor night’s sleep won’t make any difference to the plan.
sorry, have clarified above, thank you
Thanks TFK
Really like the idea of having more and more specific training plans. I was also very excited about the strength training plans. Is there any way to combine the two type of plans?
If I setup a strength plan, I lose my cycling plan and vice versa. The only option I see is to manually add strength workouts (which are single sessions).
