Expert opinion
Garmin’s mid-size Edge with both buttons and a touchscreen: riders press buttons for most tasks and touch the screen for menus and maps. That pairing makes it the easier of the Edge 540 and 840 to live with, and its 26 hours of demanding use comfortably outlasts the brighter Edge 850.
Free-Ride ClimbPro guides riders up unfamiliar hills without a route, and multi-band GNSS gave clean tracks over 1,000 test miles. The standard battery is long enough that the Solar edition adds only a modest margin.
