Expert opinion
GPS accuracy tested as accurate by 2025 standards on the same dual-frequency Sony chipset (L1+L5) used across Suunto’s higher-end watches, with excellent results across suburban running, open-water swimming and cycling test tracks, though standard testing over tree cover and tall buildings hadn’t been completed at review time. The optical heart rate sensor was inconsistent, sometimes excellent and often not, and a chest strap is recommended for sports use. Altitude readings sat in the right ballpark but showed possible under-reporting and drift while stationary, suggesting imperfect fusion between barometric and GPS-derived altitude data. ZoneSense, which dynamically determines aerobic and anaerobic thresholds from a Bluetooth chest strap, proved most reliable around aerobic threshold and less so for faster VO2 max and threshold efforts.

Battery life
Suunto claims up to 12 days in smartwatch mode and up to 20 hours of full dual-band GNSS recording, rising to 120 hours in Tour mode, which drops to reduced-accuracy GPS with heart rate disabled. Real-world battery life drops noticeably with always-on display at medium brightness.
Features
Full feature detail is covered on the Suunto specifications index.
Running-specific modes
- 34 sport modes, more than 32 pre-installed, skewed towards running
- Finish-Time (Marathon) mode, giving a real-time finish estimate based on current pace
- Track mode, improving distance accuracy and GPS trace quality on an athletics track
- ZoneSense, dynamically determining aerobic and anaerobic thresholds via DFA a1 analysis; requires a Bluetooth chest strap
What it lacks versus Race S
- No offline maps; navigation is breadcrumb trail and waypoints only
- No SuuntoPlus third-party app store
- 4GB storage versus 32GB on Race S
- No external training plan import; workouts must be built manually in the Suunto app
Music and smart features
- 4GB onboard storage for drag-and-drop MP3 files, played back via Bluetooth headphones without a phone nearby
- No streaming service support (e.g. Spotify)
- Phone notifications and media controls
- No contactless payment support outside China (Alipay only)
