Zwift // UCI – World Champs set for 2020

Zwift // Uci - World Champs Set For 2020

It had to happen. The UCI seem to have sanctioned a ZWIFT eSports World Championship for 2020.

It’s a nice idea I suppose and we’ve talked about it here and many, many other places.

One of the beauties of watching the TdF on TV is the banter and in-depth knowledge of the commentators, as the action itself is relatively scant. However, I’m not sure even the eminently skilled Mr Ned Boulting will be able to add value to the scenery on show on Zwift. Although maybe a new Zwift-world could be developed just for the event…even then, I’m sceptical.

However…

Assuming that the machinery is all equalised then the sports statisticians out there will hopefully get a good dose of Watts to analyse both in real-time and after the races.

Some times the riders’ stats are not as awesome as you’d imagine (obviously they are awesome) but they’re not supermen/women.

If you look at the last km of the Tourmalet here (strava.com) then I reckon many of you would fancy a crack at a good time (from a rested, standing start!!). Even Thibaut Pinot “only” managed the last km in 3 minutes.

Here’s the bit he did before that though 😉

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
