Garmin Edge 540/840 will get Group Messaging Tweak

Group messaging was first introduced on the Edge 1030, predominantly as a feature for cyclists.

As we already know, the four Edge 540/840/Solar will be with us in mid-April (ish). I’ve already shared the headline improvements and specs here if you want to go back and check that out. However, there are several smaller improvements that will be made and here is one for GROUP MESSAGING.

Group Messaging

I’ve not used this feature and wouldn’t be surprised if some of these pre-canned messages were already there. Anyway, now you have some more. At least that’s what the changes in Garmin Connect seem to imply.

  • Group Ride Messages
  • Initiate and Respond to Group Ride Messages from your XXXX
  • Wait at next stop
  • Finished ride
  • Waiting
  • Don’t wait
  • Call me
  • See you later
  • Need to stop
  • Okay
  • Be there soon
  • NNN minutes away
  • Help is on the way
  • Send help
  • Can’t stop
  • Running late
  • Disregard last message
  • Need mechanical help
  • Need a ride
  • Let’s meet up
  • Heading home
  • Go on ahead

Thoughts

The fact that Garmin is working on Group Messaging on Conenct might hopefully mean there are other tweaks on the Edge units themselves. Most likely changes would be improved ways to access and use the feature.

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Injinji – Runners protect your toes. Avoid discomfort and minor injury. Run more. run faster. I use them.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cables tidy. Essential for race day. I use one.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session. I use one.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters. I use one.
  • Body Glide – The Blue anti-chafe stick that all swimmers and many runners use. I use it.
  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach. I use them.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch. I use this model.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes. I use this model.
