new Garmin 965 Features (265 too)

This is a minor quarterly feature update for the Forerunner series. The features are already available elsewhere on Garmin watches, so nothing is interesting here. I’m unsure if I’ll add this one even for the CSS workouts.

  1. For example when are we going to see the skin temperature projected over time, when are they going to use the skin temperature to improve sleep cycles detection, etc.

  2. It’s nice to see Garmin continue to update their watches over a relatively long time period but I worry that they drop the ball on some simple usability issues and bugs that impact a fair number of people, could be easily fixed, but for some reason get deprioritised.

For example, there is a problem introduced a few months ago when Navigation Voice Prompts were added. This is quite a cool feature – or would be but there is no way to turn the blasted things off without also completely disabling the on-watch discrete navigation beeps/vibrations. Extremely annoying and overall a step backwards from what we used to have.

It was raised as a problem in the beta cycle and people have complained on the 965/955/Epix/Fenix/Enduro forums. A simple fix would be to add an extra control in the audio prompts menu for navigation but Garmin have more or less stated that they’re not going to fix it. More details here:

I get that if there are crashes and other instability issues these must get fixed first – but I don’t see many of those in the change log. Oh well, At least I’ll now know when the moon is coming up…
