Zwift Plus adds coaching and video routes

Zwift Plus adds two significant new features:

  1. Zwift Coach, a training plan that adapts to missed sessions and outdoor rides, and
  2. Zwift Video, 21 filmed real-world routes that keep Zwift’s PowerUps, leaderboards, and pack riding.

It costs $100 a year more than standard Zwift, or $10 a month on a monthly plan, and existing members can try it free for a month.

What you get in detail

Zwift Coach

Zwift Coach builds a plan from a short questionnaire in the Zwift Companion app. The rider sets a goal, such as a specific race on a specific date, and adds their schedule, experience, and riding style. Zwift says the model behind it uses peer-reviewed sports science and anonymised power and heart rate data from millions of Zwift riders.

The plan mixes ERG workouts with the rest of Zwift. A day’s session might be a structured workout, an hour on a named route, a RoboPacer group, an event or a video route. Zwift says 63% of riders mix their activities, and only 13% ride structured workouts exclusively, so the plan builds on what riders already choose.

When a rider skips a session, adds a weekend outdoor group ride, or goes too hard in a race, Zwift Coach offers to rework the coming days. Guidance appears before each ride on the Companion home screen and in the game, and a new Coach Analysis tab on the activity report gives feedback afterwards.

Zwift Video

Zwift Video launches with 21 routes covering 385km in France, Spain, Norway, South Africa, the US and the UK. The list includes Col du Galibier, Cime de la Bonette, Sa Calobra, the Teide Plateau, Chapman’s Peak, the Lofoten Islands, Arches National Park and Glen Etive.

The routes keep Zwift’s game layer: PowerUps, segment leaderboards, HoloReplays, Drops, XP, route badges, drafting and steering. Riders on the same route share the road; every route loops back to the start for the duration of the ride, and any structured workout can run on any video route. Riders who complete 10 routes by 1 February unlock the Globetrotter kit and bonus XP.

What it costs

Standard Zwift is unchanged, and riders who do not opt in pay nothing more. Zwift Plus is a separate tier above it, so the new features cost 50% more on a monthly plan.

Plan GBP EUR USD
Zwift, monthly £17.99 €19.99 $19.99
Zwift Plus, monthly £26.99 €29.99 $29.99
Zwift, annual £179.99 €199.99 $199.99
Zwift Plus, annual £269.99 Not announced $299.99

New Zwift members get a 14-day trial of every Zwift Plus feature. For a limited time at launch, existing members can take a one-month free upgrade, so note the end date.

Zwift Video in detail

How the routes were filmed

Zwift filmed every route itself and did not reuse footage from Rouvy, which it bought in April. Its crews mounted two GoPro Hero 13 Black cameras on a rig suction-cupped to a car, shooting 4K at 120 frames per second, with a Hammerhead Karoo 3 recording GPS and barometric altitude for the road profile. The car slowed on climbs to stay close to a cyclist’s speed, and the 120fps footage lets the video speed up or slow down to match the rider’s pace.

Each route is a single continuous take. Zwift shot Sa Calobra five times to get one without problem traffic, and Shane Miller reports that the crews drove more than 3,500km to produce the 385km now in the game. Zwift also adds its own objects to the footage, such as banners, road paint and parked Zwift vans, and uses them to hide roadworks and awkward traffic.

Streaming and data

The video streams during the ride and is not stored on the device. Riders choose a video resolution up to 4K, separate from the game’s display resolution. Shane Miller measured about 15GB of data per 30 minutes at 4K, so riders on capped broadband should choose a lower setting. Zwift blocks Video on a phone using mobile data. If the connection lags, the road turns orange, and the ride continues until the video catches up.

Rides are saved with real-world GPS coordinates but marked as virtual, so they don’t appear in outdoor ride records.

What is missing at launch

  • There are no organised events, MeetUps or races yet. Zwift says events and MeetUps will follow in the coming months.
  • The camera sits low, roughly at head height on a bike, and cannot be moved, so in a group the riders ahead block much of the view.
  • Routes run one way, so there are no U-turns and no riders coming the other way.
  • A rider cannot teleport to or join a friend mid-route.
  • You can hide the HUD on a free ride, but not during an ERG workout.
  • All but one route takes under an hour, and there is no way to queue several routes in one ride.

Zwift plans to drop regular routes starting in the new year and aims for at least 100 routes a year. Rouvy already has around 6,000, including event and race courses.

Zwift Coach in detail

Zwift Coach does not use AI to set training load. It builds on models from one of the creators of Best Bike Split, which choose each workout’s intensity and duration from the rider’s history. The model picks which Zwift content delivers that session based on factors like which routes the rider has done before and whether they prefer free rides or structured workouts.

Workouts pushed into Zwift from a connected platform such as TrainerRoad stay on the calendar, and Zwift Coach ignores them unless the rider completes one. Zwift Coach doesn’t yet suggest outdoor rides, though it accounts for them once they are done.

What it means for Rouvy and standard Zwift

Zwift says Zwift Video was in development before it bought Rouvy and FulGaz, and that Rouvy will stay a separate product. Riding both still takes two subscriptions, so for a Zwift member who wants occasional real-world video, Zwift Plus costs less than adding a second platform.

Zwift told Shane Miller that it set up two new teams for Video and Coach, and that work on the core game continues. Recent examples are the Wild Isles expansion and Watt Lock for free rides. Full details are on Zwift’s announcement.

Quick answers

How much does Zwift Plus cost?
Zwift Plus costs £26.99, €29.99 or $29.99 a month, or £269.99 or $299.99 a year. Standard Zwift stays at £17.99, €19.99 or $19.99 a month.

Is Zwift Plus an add-on or a full subscription?
Zwift Plus is a full subscription that includes everything in standard Zwift. Riders pay the Zwift Plus price instead of the standard price, not on top of it.

Can I ride Zwift Video routes without Zwift Plus?
No. Zwift Video and Zwift Coach are only available with Zwift Plus, either paid or during a trial.

Is there a free trial of Zwift Plus?
New members get a 14-day trial of every Zwift Plus feature. Existing members can take a one-month free upgrade for a limited time at launch.

How much data does Zwift Video use?
Shane Miller measured about 15GB per 30 minutes at 4K. Lower resolutions use less, but every setting uses far more data than standard Zwift.
