Q: Which sensor does the CIRQA use?

Garmin’s Gen 4 optical sensor with skin temperature added, which this site labels Gen 4.1. It tracks heart rate, HRV, SpO2, respiration and skin temperature. The Index Sleep Monitor carries the newer Elevate Gen 5.

Question 1

What is the Garmin CIRQA?

Accepted Answer

CIRQA Smart Band is a Garmin smart band for 24/7 recovery, sleep and readiness tracking. It is wrist-worn or upper-arm-worn, has no screen, and is designed to complement a Garmin watch rather than replace it. It launched on 21 July 2026 at $199.99, £179.99 or €199.99 with no compulsory subscription.

Question 2

When was the Garmin CIRQA released?

Accepted Answer

Garmin announced the CIRQA on 21 July 2026. It is available to buy from 24 July 2026.

Question 3

How much will the Garmin CIRQA cost?

Accepted Answer

$199.99 USD, £179.99 GBP, and €199.99 EUR, confirmed from Garmin’s own live pricing backend via the leaked part number 010-04675-00. European entries already carry promotion codes, suggesting launch pricing is pre-configured. Previously a Ukrainian retailer listing implied $370 to $500. Modelled against the Garmin portfolio, Whoop subscription comparisons, and the competitive pressure from the $99 Fitbit Air, the more defensible range is $249 to $349. Sub-$300 would convert Whoop subscribers on lifetime-cost grounds; above $349 the product becomes a second-device purchase for existing Garmin owners.

Question 4

What sizes and colours will be available?

Accepted Answer

Two sizes: S/M (120 to 200mm wrist) and L/XL (145 to 240mm wrist). Four colours: Black, Captain Blue, French Grey and Mauve.

Question 5

Does the CIRQA require a subscription?

Accepted Answer

Core metrics are free in Garmin Connect. Advanced features including guided workouts, Garmin Coach strength plans, nutrition tracking and Active Intelligence require Connect+ at $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. Live activity stats were also behind Connect+ at launch, but Garmin announced on 23 July 2026 that live heart rate will become free in Garmin Connect Mobile in the coming days.

Question 6

Which sensor does the CIRQA use?

Accepted Answer

Garmin’s Gen 4 optical sensor with skin temperature added, which this site labels Gen 4.1. It tracks heart rate, HRV, SpO2, respiration and skin temperature. The Index Sleep Monitor carries the newer Elevate Gen 5.

Question 7

Can the CIRQA be worn anywhere other than the wrist?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The CIRQA supports wrist and upper arm wear, set per activity in Garmin Connect. A dedicated upper arm band is available separately in black, in both S/M and L/XL. Garmin advises wearing the band with the button facing the hand for accurate strength rep counting.

Question 8

Will the CIRQA work alongside a Garmin watch?

Accepted Answer

Yes. CIRQA feeds recovery, sleep and readiness data into Garmin Connect alongside data from a Fenix, Forerunner or Edge. It broadcasts heart rate over both ANT+ and BLE to paired devices and third-party apps.

Question 9

Is CIRQA the same as Garmin Muscle Battery?

Accepted Answer

No. They are separate products with separate trademarks and separate use cases. Muscle Battery covers SmO2 muscle oxygen sensing, which requires direct placement on a muscle group. CIRQA is a 24/7 wrist band for recovery and readiness. The hardware constraints make combining both functions in one device almost impossible.

Question 10

Is CIRQA a Whoop competitor?

Accepted Answer

In positioning, yes. The trademark wording covers stress recovery, alertness and performance with no mention of workout tracking, the same ground Whoop occupies. At $199.99 with core metrics free, CIRQA undercuts Whoop One ($199 per year) from day one and costs nothing from year two onwards. The lifetime-cost case against all Whoop tiers is now definitive.

Question 11

How did the CIRQA name become public?

Accepted Answer

A product listing briefly appeared on Garmin’s own back-end systems in January 2026, before the company intended to announce the product. Reddit user CultureAdvanced captured screenshots exposing the product name, part numbers, sizes and colours. The trademark filing in February confirmed the name officially.

Question 12

What does CIRQA mean?

Accepted Answer

Garmin has not explained the name. The most plausible reading is a stylisation of ‘circa’, pointing toward circadian rhythm tracking and continuous around-the-clock measurement. Garmin has not confirmed this.

Question 13

Does CIRQA duplicate data if I also wear a Garmin watch?

Accepted Answer

No. Garmin’s TrueUp and Physio TrueUp sync features, already used across multi-device Garmin accounts, merge data rather than duplicating it. Setup lets you set a primary wearable, and CIRQA can be assigned that role even alongside other paired devices.

Question 14

Does CIRQA work without a phone nearby?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It stores up to 14 days of continuous heart rate and sleep data onboard, so it keeps recording even if the phone is left behind, syncing once reconnected.

Question 15

How does CIRQA decide when to auto-record an activity?

Accepted Answer

It needs roughly 10 to 15 minutes of sustained activity before logging anything automatically. High-confidence detections save directly under a named sport type, while lower-confidence sessions prompt a confirmation in Garmin Connect, such as asking whether a session was cycling.

Question 16

Can auto-detected CIRQA activities include a GPS track?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if the phone is connected nearby. Auto-detected sessions can carry a full GPS track pulled from the paired phone’s location data.

Question 17

Does CIRQA give haptic feedback during a run?

Accepted Answer

Only for manually started activities, using the button or the app. Split alerts at mile or km markers vibrate the band, drawing on the connected phone’s GPS for distance.

Question 18

What happens if I start an activity on both CIRQA and my watch?

Accepted Answer

Normally this creates two separate logged activities, though some users have reported inconsistent behaviour where a duplicate doesn’t appear. Starting the activity on the watch only suppresses CIRQA’s automatic detection for that session.

Question 19

Can I change what activity type the CIRQA button starts?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The button’s manual-start activity defaults to a generic timed activity but can be reassigned to running or another sport in Garmin Connect.

Question 20

Does CIRQA auto-export to Strava?

Accepted Answer

Not yet confirmed working reliably at launch. Auto-export to Strava and other third-party platforms is not yet available.

Question 21

Can I see live heart rate during a workout on CIRQA?

Accepted Answer

At launch this required a Connect+ subscription. Garmin has indicated to DC Rainmaker that this will change to be free.

Question 22

Does CIRQA support structured workout playback?

Accepted Answer

Only with Connect+. Following the steps of a structured workout on the phone screen requires the subscription.

Question 23

How accurate is CIRQA's claimed 10-day battery life?

Accepted Answer

Real-world battery drain, visible in Garmin Connect though not recorded in the FIT file itself, tracks close to the claimed figure, at roughly 10% used per day or slightly better.
