Garmin’s August 25 Livestream: What We Expect

Garmin has scheduled a YouTube launch event for Tuesday, August 25, at 12 PM UK time, titled “Play Harder”. The video’s thumbnail teaser shows a surfer and the tagline “engineered on the inside for life on the outside.”
We expect at least three watches across five confirmed or likely size/display tiers, with Enduro 4 and Fenix E2 still uncertain additions:

Edit: Garmin Rumors has independently confirmed 18 Fenix 9 SKUs listed on Czech retailer SkiAndBike, with genuine Garmin product numbers, not a rumor this time. There is no 43mm Solar listing anywhere in that set. The earlier claim from a source describing themselves as a Garmin employee, that 43mm applies across every Fenix model this generation including Solar, does not hold up against this. What the listings do confirm is a 43mm option on the Pro and inReach tier, satellite messaging in a case size the Fenix 8 Pro never offered. Neither Enduro 4 nor Fenix E2 appear on that retailer yet, which does not rule either out. A retailer could in theory fabricate listings for traffic, but 18 SKUs with real Garmin product numbers, prices, and photographed listing pages make that unlikely here. Five Garmin model numbers cleared regulatory testing since June: A05216, A05146, A05419, A05420 and A05170.
- A05216 (18 June, FCC) – Enduro 4. ANT+ and dual-band Wi-Fi only, no cellular or satellite hardware, consistent with an “Enduro_4” string found in a Garmin Connect 5.26 teardown.
- A05146 (2 July, Indonesia DJID) – likely Fenix E2, by elimination. Fenix E has always been single-size, single-display, with no Pro or Solar variant, fitting a standalone filing.
- A05419 and A05420 (14 July, Indonesia DJID) – the AMOLED and MIP-Solar versions of the standard Fenix 9, following the same pattern Garmin used for the Fenix 8, filed as two separate models split by display, not by tier.
- A05170 (5 August, FCC) – Fenix 9 Pro, with satellite and cellular hardware: LTE-M bands 2, 4 and 12 with voice, NB-NTN satellite bands 23 and 255 for data, plus Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ANT+ and NFC. Test units used silicone, nylon and titanium straps.
A05170’s filing initially suggested a separate, later launch for Fenix 9 Pro, since confidentiality on its photos and manual doesn’t expire until 1 February 2027. That estimate has since been overtaken by the 23 August retailer leak, which catalogues Fenix 9 Pro and Pro inReach alongside the standard Fenix 9, pointing to a joint launch instead.
The timing lines up with Garmin’s own second quarter 2026 results, in which the company pointed to a launch-heavy second half for its Outdoor division, and with the FCC filings for Garmin International.
A dedicated livestream is rare for Garmin, which normally announces new hardware by press release. The only precedent is the Fenix 8, Fenix E, and Enduro 3 launch on 27 August 2024, which also had its own livestream page. Repeating that format two years later confirms this site’s view that it must, at minimum, be a Fenix 9 launch.

My wishlist includes:
– substantially faster (and more energy efficient) processor with vector instructions to improve map rendering speed
– LPTO AMOLED display that is more energy efficient including variable refresh
– at least 1.5” display
– actual LTE so that an emergency call or texts in mobile range do not require a Garmin messenger or random gateway number assignments.
– lets have some much, much better watch face designs (one can dream)
I think the satellite is essentially a gimmick. It’s not something you could actually rely upon in back country for safety.

I’m extraordinarily to upgrade regardless. My wife has an Epix Pro and I don’t see any practical difference really outside of diving.

LOL, sell 2 livers and 3 kidneys, then you can get the base model Fenix 9.
Hopefully they will in fact release small Fenix 9 solar, I wouldn’t forgive them if they gave up on small Fenix fans…

How come they release dozens of generic looking AMOLED watches but give up on a product that made me switch to Garmin in the first place. There’s literary nothing for me to buy in their ridiculously oversized portfolio 🙁

If there is no new fast procesor and no new tehnologies there is no point for this watch. And screen must be more than 1,5 inch, almost all others have it for 2 or 3 years already. Big expectations. We will se what will Garmin delivers.
