I suspected that Coros used unbranded Redditor names to over-promote its products on other subreddits and over-criticise other brands. I decided to investigate and, to be fair to Coros, I also checked whether other brands showed the same activity patterns. I expected a certain result, but the results surprised me.
Some patterns
One account has posted 9,703 comments, 9,654 of them in r/Coros, over three and a half years, roughly seven a day, and it belongs to Coros. Across every comment ever written in that subreddit, 5.66% came from u/COROS-official.
The next most active branded redditor was in the Amazfit subreddit, where a named employee wrote 1.2% of its comments. Garmin, Apple, Wahoo, Suunto, and Polar have no active account in any of their Reddit communities that I could find.
What the data covered
I pulled 7,648 comments from r/Coros and 2,887 from r/the5krunner covering May 2025 to October 2026, then 5,505 comments mentioning Coros from eleven rival subreddits over the same period, including r/Garmin, r/Suunto, r/running, r/AdvancedRunning, and r/triathlon. For the 162 accounts that mentioned Coros most, I pulled their full public histories: 119,150 comments total.
Four tests separate a paid advocate from an ordinary enthusiast.
- An advocate’s history is dominated by the brand, while a real person also posts about football and their car.
- Seeded accounts and their comments tend to be created in a cluster around a product launch.
- They turn up together in the same threads.
- Cheap operations reuse stock phrases across supposedly unrelated accounts.
No street team
None of the four tests found a team of commenters.
Of the 162 heaviest Coros commenters, only two posted almost nothing but watch talk, and both of those are Garmin and Suunto regulars. The accounts most enthusiastic about Coros in r/Coros are also the ones most willing to criticise it: the user who praises the Pace 4 for its battery and its lack of what he calls “BS recovery metrics” elsewhere complains that Coros settings are app-only. The one account that scored highest for anti-Garmin sentiment turned out to be an Apple Watch Ultra devotee.
In r/the5krunner, 34 of 2,887 comments were negative about Garmin, and three of those also mentioned a Coros product. Account creation dates spread across six years with no cluster. The only pair of accounts that shared an identical comment, word for word, were two people saying the Coros interface drove them mad, which is the wrong way around for a Coros campaign.
Who turns up for their customers
The figures below count every comment each brand account has ever posted in its community, against every comment held for that subreddit. The subreddits were chosen as the largest community for each brand, and u/COROS-official was found by looking for the most active account in r/Coros rather than by searching for the name.
| Brand | Subreddit | Members | Brand account | Comments | Share of all comments |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coros | r/Coros | 17,000 | u/COROS-official | 9,654 | 5.66% |
| Amazfit | r/amazfit | 35,900 | u/Amazfit-Bryce | 3,293 | 1.20% |
| Oura | r/ouraring | 101,300 | u/Oura_Ring and two named staff | 7,957 | 1.16% |
| Whoop | r/whoop | 85,200 | u/WHOOP_Official | 2,294 | 0.40% |
| r/PixelWatch | 48,300 | u/PixelCommunity | 1,142 | 0.39% | |
| Strava | r/Strava | 143,400 | u/strava-team | 682 | 0.18% |
| Fitbit | r/fitbit | 124,300 | u/FitbitHelpCommunity | 422 | 0.06% |
| Garmin | r/Garmin | 250,000 | none active | 0 | 0% |
| Apple | r/AppleWatch | 926,100 | none active | 0 | 0% |
| Wahoo | r/wahoofitness | 11,300 | none | 0 | 0% |
| Suunto | r/Suunto | 10,200 | u/Suunto, dormant since 2018 | 0 | 0% |
| Polar | r/Polarfitness | 14,000 | u/PolarOfficial, dormant since 2016 | 0 | 0% |
Garmin’s nearest thing to a presence is u/GarminSupport, which posted one comment, in 2017. Apple’s u/Apple has five comments in total, and four of them are on its own profile page. The three Apple Watch subreddits have over a million members combined, and the company has never spoken in any of them in an official capacity.
What the Coros account does
The volume could be read as a company defending itself, so I sorted every u/COROS-official comment by what it contains.
- A rival brand is named in 2.3% of them, and Strava accounts for more of those mentions than Garmin does, almost always in answer to a sync question.
- Phrases that correct a user (“to clarify”, “that’s not accurate”) appear in 1.7%.
- Support language, such as asking for a direct message, or suggesting a firmware step, appears in 22.7%.
- The typical comment is 29 words long and averages one upvote, which is what a routine support reply probably looks like.
- When the account mentions Garmin, the tone is flat.
- When a customer asks about moving their Garmin history to Coros, the account says the numbers will look different because Coros calculates them its own way.
- When a Garmin watch has a fault, it tells the owner to contact Garmin Support. It never claims a Coros watch is better than a Fenix.
The same pattern holds for the other active brands. Here are some examples.
- Oura’s named staff accounts carry support language in 81% of their comments.
- Whoop’s official account uses it in 43%.
- Amazfit’s employee account is the most promotional of the set, with feedback and roadmap language in 24% of comments, but it still reads like a community manager to me.
My take
I was surprised, and I have to apologise to Coros for suspecting they manipulated Reddit comments. Indeed, the whole exercise showed I could find very little evidence that any of the brands were engaging in overtly nefarious commenting. Sure, there could be super-clever, detailed ways individual Redditors could have been set up to make one comment and never reuse it; that sort of thing would have escaped my analysis, but I doubt the companies did that.
Indeed, all the brands seem to be behaving themselves.
There are wider issues around formal company support and what happens on the official Garmin forums and other brands’ official forums. I’ve not looked at that here. Just Reddit.
For an athlete choosing between a Pace 4 Pro and a Forerunner 970, the practical difference is who answers when the watch misbehaves. A Coros owner posting a problem in r/Coros has a fair chance of an employee replying within the day. A Garmin owner with the same problem relies on other owners. Garmin’s own forums are a separate matter, but the Fenix 9 bug list shows how much there is to answer. That difference shows up in the reasons runners give for switching, and seven comments a day fits inside one community manager’s workday.
Quick answers
Does Coros use fake Reddit accounts to promote its watches?
No evidence of it was found. Across 119,150 comments from the 162 accounts that discuss Coros most, none showed the narrow history, clustered creation dates, shared threads, or copied phrasing that mark a paid campaign. The company’s only visible presence is its named account, u/COROS-official.
Does Garmin reply to customers on Reddit?
No. Garmin has no active account in r/Garmin, r/GarminWatches, or r/GarminFenix. The only Garmin-named account with any history, u/GarminSupport, posted once in 2017. Garmin answers customers through its own forums at forums.garmin.com and through support tickets.
Is r/Coros run by Coros?
The subreddit’s description does not say. It calls itself a place to discuss Coros wearables and makes no statement about company involvement either way, unlike r/Garmin and r/Suunto, which both state they are unofficial. Coros posts in it through u/COROS-official. Whether the company also moderates it is a question for Coros.
