COROS Dura 2 Solar vs Dura – £230 extra buys this

Dura 2 Solar costs £230 more than the original Dura at launch. Beyond memory price rises, tariffs, and the like, the price hike comes from a larger edge-to-edge screen, voice control, named streets and trails on the map, and a lighter carbon-and-aluminium build. Battery life and solar gain are unchanged, and rerouting still needs a phone.

Dura is sold out and will not be restocked, so this is a guide to what has changed rather than a choice between two models on sale. The full features and specs are on the Dura 2 Solar specifications page.

What is new

Voice control

Hold the left button and speak, and a windproof microphone lets a rider start and end rides, reroute, drop points of interest, set alerts and control media. The speaker reads turn alerts aloud and doubles as a bike bell with a double tap on the screen.

A screen that fills the unit

The screen grows from 2.7 to 3.5 inches, with 17% higher pixel density, and now runs to the edges of the case. Dura’s panel shared the front with its solar strip, which left a small map window. Dura 2 Solar shows more of the route and more data fields at once.

Maps you can read

Street and trail names and points of interest now appear on the map itself, where Dura showed street names only on turn alerts. Pinch-and-pan zoom runs on a faster Ambiq Apollo 510 processor, and climb alerts work on every ride, with or without a route.

New controls

The dial is gone. A lap button sits on the left and a start, stop and select button on the right, and two pressure-sensitive buttons built into the solar panel scroll the data pages. Gravel and mountain riders who used the dial with full-finger gloves should try the new layout before buying.

Smaller additions

  • Action-camera control for selected GoPro, DJI and Insta360 models
  • Campagnolo electronic shifting support promised by the end of 2026, alongside Shimano and SRAM AXS
  • Workouts and routes loaded or ended mid-ride without stopping the recording
  • Data fields editable on the device during a ride
  • Battery level of each paired sensor on screen
  • Up to 15 sensors over Bluetooth 5.4 and ANT+

What stays the same

Battery life is unchanged at 120 hours in All Systems GPS and 70 hours in dual-frequency, and the solar gain is still up to two hours of riding per hour of direct sun at 75,000 lux. The panel has grown in size and is positioned below the screen, closer to the rider’s shadow.

Rerouting still runs through the COROS app on a paired phone. The difference is that the phone now calculates the route itself, so it no longer needs mobile data when the map region is downloaded. The six ride profiles remain fixed: Road, Indoor, Gravel, MTB, E-Bike and E-MTB.

The price

Dura launched at $249 with a mount. Dura 2 Solar costs $499 without one and $549 with one, more than double. Riders who already own a quarter-turn mount can buy the unit alone for £429 / $499.

The wider field, including Garmin Edge 1060 at £699.99 / $799.99, is in the best cycling computer guide, and the launch details are in the Dura 2 Solar launch report.
