Expert opinion

The Pixel Watch 4 is the first Pixel Watch that does not ask you to forgive anything. Bright enough to read in direct sun, two days of battery rather than one, and fifteen minutes on the charger covers most of a day. That removes the daily friction that made earlier Pixel Watches tiring to own.

Sport tracking is competent. GPS is accurate enough for anyone not comparing traces against a chest strap. Heart rate holds up outside high-intensity intervals. Gemini answers most questions well, needs a connection to do so, and still bounces you into the app for anything about your own training.

You can replace the battery and screen yourself, which nothing else at this price allows. The deeper training insights need a subscription. The domed glass sits proud of the case and will collect scratches.

For an Android phone owner who trains recreationally, this is the one. Anyone racing, using power meters, or needing more than two days between charges should buy a sports watch.

Key features

GPS accuracy

Dual-frequency GNSS across GPS, Galileo and GLONASS. The Pixel Watch 4 scored 83% on the standard the5krunner GPS test course, placing it in the accurate-but-not-leading tier alongside Suunto and Amazfit dual-frequency devices. The current Garmin Synaptics and Apple Ultra implementations are marginally better. Cadence lock appeared in one treadmill session during testing. No cloud-based post-processing, which arrived with the Pixel Watch 5.

Optical heart rate

Multi-path optical sensor, broadly accurate in steady-state efforts. Cadence lock recorded in one test session. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 produced dropouts where the Pixel Watch recorded continuously, and neither platform was consistently superior across all test conditions. Deep sleep detection was the most accurate of three devices tested against the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Eight Sleep Pod.

Gemini

Accessed via the side button. Handles conversational commands, smart home control, scheduling and factual queries. At the time of review, sports performance questions opened the Fitbit app rather than answering directly. Gemini coaching arrived later via Google Health Premium.

Wear OS 6.1 update

Added the double-pinch gesture, exclusive to the Pixel Watch 4 at launch: pinch index finger and thumb twice to scroll notifications, manage timers, snooze alarms and control media. A wrist-turn gesture dismisses calls and notifications. Smart replies run twice as fast on-device. Delivered in the March 2026 Pixel Drop.

Satellite SOS

Off-grid emergency communication via satellite, available on LTE models only. Included free for 2 years from launch. Extended to Canada, Europe, Alaska and Hawaii in the March 2026 update.

Activities

Around 40 tracked activities via the Google Health app, formerly Fitbit. GPS-tracked activities include running, outdoor cycling, hiking and walking. Pool and open water swimming are tracked without GPS. Other profiles include HIIT, strength training, yoga, Pilates, elliptical, rowing, basketball, pickleball, badminton, baseball, American football, field hockey, soccer, cricket, rugby, padel and general sport. Multi-sport mode for triathlon is not supported.
