Oakley Meta Vanguard Hits Amazon: Garmin and Strava Ready

Strava: Athletic Story Telling By Meta

The model that matters for runners and cyclists is the Oakley Meta Vanguard. We flagged the Garmin and Strava tie-in at launch in September 2025. Amazon availability with easy returns changes the buying calculation: the Garmin-paired experience is either right for you or it isn’t, and now you can find out risk-free.

What you actually get for sports

  • Ask “Hey Meta, what’s my heart rate?” mid-effort and your Garmin data is read back through the lens speakers
  • Autocapture fires a short video every lap, kilometre or mile, plus at key moments like heart-rate ramps and elevation gains
  • Clips arrive stitched into a compilation video with Garmin metrics overlaid, ready to share to Strava
  • A small LED above the right eye flags whether you are in your pace, heart rate or power zone
  • Voice Shortcuts trigger on a single word, so no “Hey Meta” mid-interval
  • Wind-resistant 5-mic array and helmet-compatible fit for cycling and running at pace

How it compares: Engo 3

The choice for META is not obvious. Competitors like Engo are already here, with others rumoured for later in the year.

The closest serious endurance rival is the Engo 3 at £299.95. It takes a different tech approach: a colour heads-up display in the lens showing structured Garmin workouts live, no camera, no AI, 20-hour battery.

  • Choose the Vanguard to film and hear the data.
  • Choose the Engo 3 to see the numbers without looking down.

The other story: distribution

Until now, the Meta range has mainly been available in Meta’s own stores and at Ray-Ban and Oakley opticians. Amazon changes the calculus. Prime next-day delivery and 30-day returns lower the barrier for a £469.99 product that most buyers have never tried on. Review counts scale fast: the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer is already an Amazon best seller with over 1,400 ratings, and the Vanguard has 147 and is climbing. Combined with the wider 2026 portfolio, including the new Blayzer and Scriber prescription frames launched in April, Meta is pushing smart glasses from an early-adopter curiosity to a mainstream purchase before Google Android XR and Apple arrive.

FAQ

Which Garmin watches work with the Oakley Meta Vanguard

Meta supports a wide range of Garmin devices through its Connect IQ app, including older models such as the Forerunner 165 and Fenix 7, as well as current flagships. A paired smartphone running the Meta AI app is required. Confirm your specific watch is listed before purchase.

How long does the Oakley Meta Vanguard battery last in real use

Meta claims up to 9 hours of mixed use. Real-world figures with heavy video capture run closer to 4-5 hours. The charging case adds around 36 hours of charge, and a 20-minute fast charge returns the glasses to 50 per cent.

  1. Used to own a pair. The massive deal breaker is that none of the smart features work without a phone around.

Without it these are just nice pair or sports sunglasses with great speakers and a vertical camera

  2. I haven’t yet tried any Meta glasses but if you’re going for running glasses I have a hard time seeing how anyone would prefer those over Engo glasses.

Having a HUD is game changing for me, audio cues I can get from any headphones.

Auto record could be compelling but I’m not sure personally how much I’d enjoy it. Maybe for race days it could create cool memories.
