#2 Deep Dive Feature Files: Week Ending 6 June 2026

Deep Dive Feature Files Asset 2Each week this digest scans firmware and software update logs across nine major sports-technology brands and reports only genuine feature additions. Bug fixes, stability patches, and security updates are excluded. This edition covers 31 May to 6 June 2026.

Garmin

Edge 540 / 550 / 840 / 850 / 1040 / 1050 / MTB — v31.30 — 2 June 2026

the5krunner insight: A meaningful release for eBike riders and anyone managing multiple bikes — on-device gear management removes the need for a connected phone when swapping components.

Garmin pushed v31.30 to its full current Edge cycling computer line on 2 June as part of the Q2 2026 update cycle. Two feature additions qualify this week.

  • On-device gear management. Riders can now add, change, and remove individual components — drivetrain, wheels, and tyres — and organise them into gear collections entirely from the Edge screen, without opening Garmin Connect or a web browser.
  • Bosch eBike Smart System support. Edge computers gain live integration with Bosch-powered eBikes: real-time battery status, smart range routing, and live power and cadence data are displayed directly on the head unit.

Huawei

Watch Ultimate 2 — HarmonyOS 6.1 — 4 June 2026

the5krunner insight: Nap tracking and Mini Workout are the most practical additions for endurance athletes. The Health Insights map update is niche but demonstrates Huawei’s ongoing push to surface more location-linked fitness data directly on the watch.

Global units of the Watch Ultimate 2 began receiving HarmonyOS 6.1 on 4 June. The update adds several health and fitness features.

  • Nap Summary. Short naps are now tracked and logged separately, giving a more complete picture of daily sleep behaviour.
  • Mini Workout. A new quick-session mode allows short exercise bouts to be recorded without triggering a full structured activity.
  • Health Insights map. Running routes, cycling routes, and VO2 max data are now overlaid in the Health Insights map view, enabling location-linked fitness trend analysis.
  • New watch faces. Two new designs — Sweet Companions and Dream Star — are included in this release.

Watch GT Runner 2 — HarmonyOS 6.0.0.155 — 6 June 2026

the5krunner insight: A focused release. RAI on the post-run screen is the standout — making the metric accessible at a glance rather than buried inside the Health app.

A separate update arrived for the Watch GT Runner 2 on 6 June with three running-specific additions.

  • Auto-pause on goal completion. The workout automatically pauses when a pre-set distance, time, or calorie goal is reached.
  • Training record deletion. Swiping left on any training entry in the history view now presents a delete option, removing a previous navigational step.
  • RAI post-run display. Running Ability Index — Huawei’s composite running performance metric — is now shown on the post-activity summary screen directly on the watch.

No Updates This Week

The following brands produced no firmware or software releases in the 31 May to 6 June window that contained new features: Amazfit (most recent qualifying update predates the window), COROS (May 2026 feature release pushed approximately 14 May, before the window), Hammerhead (latest confirmed release 1.632.2430 from 14 May), Polar (no GPS watch firmware updates within the window), Samsung (no qualifying feature firmware identified), Suunto (most recent update across all current models was 7 April), and Wahoo (BOLT, ROAM 3, and ACE most recent releases from 20 May comprised bug fixes only).

FAQ

What counts as a feature update for this digest?

An entry qualifies if the release notes describe new user-facing capabilities: new activity modes, additional metrics, third-party hardware or service integrations, new data fields, or new display options. Bug fixes, stability improvements, security patches, and performance optimisations alone do not qualify, even when they accompany genuine feature additions.

Which Garmin Edge models received v31.30?

The Edge 540, Edge 550, Edge 840, Edge 850, Edge 1040, Edge 1050, and Edge MTB. The Edge Explore 2 is not included; it received a separate v30.23 corrective release on 3 June to address a diagnostic fault introduced by v30.19, with no new features.

Is the Bosch eBike Smart System integration available globally?

Garmin has not specified regional restrictions in the v31.30 release notes. Bosch eBike Smart System hardware is sold in multiple markets, though compatible bike availability varies by region.

What is RAI on the Huawei Watch GT Runner 2?

Running Ability Index is Huawei’s composite metric for running performance. It aggregates pace, heart rate response, cadence, and other physiological indicators into a single score reflecting aerobic fitness and running economy. Previously accessible only inside the Health app, the 6 June update surfaces it on the watch’s post-run summary screen.

Why does the digest sometimes cover fewer brands than expected?

Many brands release firmware on irregular schedules. Any brand with no qualifying release in the window is named explicitly in the No Updates section rather than being omitted silently.

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
