Amazfit Helio Strap 2: What to Expect — and the Question Amazfit Needs to Answer

Heads up: I work with the brand as a reviewer. I sometimes get devices and intel before launch that is always under NDA, and I cannot disclose it. This article is purely speculative, based on publicly available information, and responds to comments that the Helio Strap is launching in June 2026. It might be, but I don’t know either way. I write these because I enjoy the speculation, and I hope you do too and can add to the thought process below in the comments.

The Hardware Is Not the Story

Fact: The CFO confirmed a successor to the Amazfit Helio is in development. Further, Zepp Health filed regulatory documents with the FCC under model numbers A2671 and A2672 on 12 May 2026, requesting a 180-day confidentiality window, which points to a launch window of August to November 2026. June and July feel too soon.

Here’s the thing. The FCC filing lists the battery at 230 mAh, which is almost identical to the current Helio Core. The physical cell is not getting larger. Any battery life improvement will come from gains in sensor and radio efficiency, not from a bigger cell. From experience, that’s +30% tops. The core form factor will not change; the only plausible hardware tweak is an easier strap-swapping mechanism, which would also drive additional accessory sales. Perhaps also more accurate, non-HR, sesnors – like a better accelerometer.

That is it for hardware. No ECG. No AFib. No blood pressure. Those require electrical sensors, patented algorithms, medical research, and accreditation — none of which come to a $99 strap.

So what is the Helio Strap 2 actually for if there’s only a modest improvement in battery and perhaps accuracy?

The Real Product Is the Ecosystem

Zepp OS 6, launched with the Balance 3 and Balance Ultra, introduced Multi-Device Activity Sync, consolidating steps, calories, and distance across devices. Useful. But it does not sync workout training load, nor any of the advanced physiology stuff. A run recorded on the Helio Strap does not currently feed the Balance 3’s HybridCharge score. The watch does not, in any meaningful physiological sense, know the session happened on the band.

That is the gap the Helio Strap 2 needs to close to get existing owners to buy Helio and to get a new Helio owner to buy a watch later. Only a new capability on a Gen 2 device, kept off from the existing Gen 1 Helio strap, makes the ecosystem argument real.

There’s a but.

Garmin took two years to get from basic activity sync (TrueUp, 2016) to full training load sync (Physio TrueUp, 2018). 2028 is too long to wait for Amazfit.

Fitbit Air, alongside Pixel Watch, and CIRQA, alongside other Garmin devices, already sync properly. With modern AI coding methods, I think Amazfit could close that gap in months rather than years. The Helio Strap 2 launch and the arrival of workout-level sync could be the same announcement. Soon. Ish.

  • If they are: an Amazfit watch owner buys the Gen 2 strap; the watch covers all sports; the strap covers the gym, sleep and general life. HybridCharge sees it all using the next level of Activity sync. That is a decent ecosystem feature and a compelling $99 companion purchase.
  • If they are not, the Helio Strap 2 is a well-specified standalone band with a very slightly better battery that competes on price against the Fitbit Air at $99.99 and undercuts the Polar Loop Gen 2 at $199. Still a good product for a first-time buyer who wants recovery tracking without a subscription, but not worth the considerable effort Amazfit will have put into iterating on a new model.

Everything Else I Expect

Fast charging is the most obvious hardware upgrade to match the Fitbit Air, which achieves a full day from five minutes. The current Helio Strap takes 2 hours to charge from empty. Amazfit will not necessarily have known what Air was going to release with or that Air was even planned, nevertheless the brand would have realised that faster charging is a more obvious next feature to add.

Open BLE HR broadcast stays. The current device already connects to Garmin watches, Apple Watch, Coros, and Garmin Edge computers, and most apps and devices already support it by implementing the standard. A second concurrent BLE connection is possible, but I would err here on the side of it being relatively unlikely. Smart Wake, a haptic alarm timed to light sleep, is on my wishlist; the motor is already there, and Fitbit Air also has one.

Price can’t go above $99.99; Fitbit Air has set that anchor firmly. Very firmly.

The Market Has Changed

When the original Helio Strap launched in June 2025, Whoop was the only serious screenless competitor, and the no-subscription argument was decisive. Amazfit was the obvious choice for anyone on a budget wanting core features.

Fitbit Air and, to a lesser extent, Polar Loop Gen 2 have ended that. Amazfit needs a multi-device ecosystem to work, or a subscription tier worth paying for. At $99 with no recurring subs, the margin for error is thin.

The Helio Strap 2 won’t be a hardware refresh. It will be a tweak that justifies a purchase into an improved ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the Amazfit Helio Strap 2 be released?

Zepp Health has not announced a release date. The FCC confidentiality window points to August to November 2026 as the likely launch period.

What is the difference between the Helio Strap and the Helio Core?

The Helio Core is the sensor module only. The Helio Strap is the complete unit, including the strap. The Core can be used separately with the Helio Armband or Arm Sleeve accessories.

Does the Amazfit Helio Strap broadcast heart rate to Garmin and other devices?

Yes. The current Helio Strap already broadcasts heart rate over standard BLE to Garmin watches, Apple Watch, Coros, and Garmin Edge cycling computers. This is expected to continue on the Helio Strap 2.

Will the Helio Strap 2 have ECG or AFib detection?

No. Those features require electrical sensors and medical accreditation at a higher price point. They are present on the Whoop MG but are not expected here.

Does the Helio Strap work with HybridCharge on the Balance 3?

Partially. Daily activity totals sync via Multi-Device Activity Sync. Whether workout training load from strap sessions feeds HybridCharge on a paired Balance 3 is not yet confirmed — and is the key question the Helio Strap 2 launch needs to answer.

This article is speculative. Zepp Health has not announced the Amazfit Helio Strap 2, and no release date has been confirmed.

  1. Yes, I believe it’s coming soon. I have seen it in the FCC few days ago. Keep it up, I like reading speculation articles too
