Strava App Redesign
The Strava app has a minor design update when live recording a workout on a smartphone.
Perhaps the most meaningful change is the overlay of key sport metrics on the map, getting around the need to toggle between a MAP VIEW and DATA VIEW.
Strava’s data page view has also been spruced up slightly with a slight reorganisation of the metrics, placing more prominence on PACE (when running).
Similarly, when starting a workout, more prominence is placed on choosing the sport type and route.
Key features of the latest update include:
- Enhanced navigation: The updated Record experience is powered by the updated Map Rendering Engine with an enhanced level of detail.
- Segments: It’s now easier to find, follow and compete on Segments. Subscribers can chase best efforts on Live Segments and see their progress in real-time.
- Map + Stats, together: No more switching between screens during a workout. Users can now view stats and their map simultaneously.
- Real-time splits: Splits help users understand the time it takes to complete a specific distance during their workout. Now, users can see their workout splits update in real-time as they move in order to help facilitate smarter training.
- Live Laps: Laps will be added to the Record feature. This will allow users to track and analyse activities by marking laps at specific distances or intervals during a workout.
Takeout
It is an improvement, but it still ranks low on the excitement scale.

Any rough guess on the percentage of users recording activities with a phone verses a watch?
Regardless, I imagine recording with a phone is still a good entry route.
1%
Probably accurate. On runs people check their wrists, not their phones.
yes.
some peopel will use the strava app to record rides with the app/phone mounted on their handlebars.
But still the super annoying auto edit “feature”
