Apple Card and Chase: What the Issuer Change Means for the UK
Apple and JPMorgan Chase officially announced on 7 January 2026 that Chase will replace Goldman Sachs as the issuer of Apple Card. The transition is expected to take around 24 months to complete.
Could Apple Card expand to the UK?
While Apple has not confirmed a UK launch of its credit card, the move to Chase makes international expansion far more plausible than before, for several key reasons:
Infrastructure
Unlike Goldman Sachs, Chase already operates a fully fledged digital retail bank in the UK through Chase UK, with more than two million customers. This significantly lowers the operational barrier to launching a new credit product.
Existing Credit Products
Chase UK launched its first own-brand credit card in mid-2025, demonstrating that it already has the regulatory approvals, risk systems, and customer-service infrastructure needed to manage consumer credit in the UK under the supervision of the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).
This follows broader changes in the UK’s digital banking landscape for wearable, which we’ve covered previously in our assessment of the Curve card.
Strategic Intent
Industry analysts have long viewed Goldman Sachs’ limited international retail presence as the main obstacle to Apple Card expanding beyond the US. Partnering with a global bank like JPMorgan Chase arguably removes that roadblock.
Current status
For now, Apple Card remains exclusive to the United States, and neither Apple nor Chase has announced concrete plans for a UK rollout.
Bottom line:
The issuer change doesn’t guarantee a UK launch — but it meaningfully improves the odds.
