Apple Watch 7 - Deliveries Slip To November. How To Get One On Oct 15thApple Watch 7 – the wait is on

Over the last month, there were numerous rumours that the initial stock of Series 7 watches would be very low and those rumours have turned out to be true. Here is my experience of trying to order one today so that I can get my hands on one at the earliest opportuniy

Not great

After one hour on Apple’s site, I finally managed to choose the Apple Watch 7 PRODUCT RED version for an in-store collection in Kingston on Friday, October 15…fourth time lucky!

Even 30 minutes after the pre-ordering started I was being gazumped as I procrastinated over the colour of my watch band, either that or the Paypal checkout process failed. Soon after yet another failed transaction, I decided instead to opt for collection from White City (Brent Cross?) and hence a 50 mile round trip by car. That sale fell through too before I luckily found that no one else wanted a 45mm PRODUCT RED version and that one was available in the store 1 mile from where I live. Yay!

I’ll be returning it within a month for the one I really want. (When I last looked Apple had a 30-day no-quibbles return policy.)

What are the new Apple Watch colours?

Apple Watch Series 7 has a refreshed case shape. Even though it is 1mm bigger your old straps will still fit HOWEVER the colours are subtly different and some of the names are different. It’s all designed to make you buy more stuff, more often. Here are the new names and the older colours that they supercede.

  • midnight (similar to space gray)
  • starlight (similar to silver)
  • green (new colour)
  • blue (lighter blue than 2020)
  • red (darker red than 2020)

Suggestions

Collection will be quicker than delivery. Apple advised me that in each of the last two years and so now, with more limited stock, I would imagine the same advice holds good.

Stores will have pre-allocated Apple Watch 7 stock of many models and once the allocations are used up you will be unable to pre-order one for 15 October collection. You might have to try other stores nearby or go for a different size or case variant.

Alternative retailers like Amazon are carefully using their words to suggest that stock might be available on the 15th. (I doubt it). Get one from Apple if you want the quickest availability.

Failing that you might have to wait for several more weeks and well into November.

Buy Apple Watch 7 here Amazon and others.

  • Ravemen FR300 — Front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters. I use one.
  • Body Glide – The blue anti-chafe stick that all swimmers and many runners use. I use it.
  • Maurten — The race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mixes engineered to be easy on the stomach. I use them.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — A radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch. I use this model.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — The power-meter pedals most serious cyclists choose. Accurate, easy to move between bikes. I use this model.
  • Garmin Forerunner 970 — A serious choice for a pro-grade triathlon watch. I use this.
