Runna logs a record 2.8 million miles worth of 5Ks in one day
850,000 5Ks. That’s 4.5 million kilometres, or 2.8 million miles. All recorded by Strava and its recently acquired Runna on Global Running Day, 3 June 2026.
That’s the number you came for, but there are more interesting details if we do a deep dive into the stats provided by Strava and Runna:
- A quarter of all activities were uploaded between 18:00 and 20:00, with 19:00 the busiest single hour. The record attempt ran across all time zones for 24 hours, but participation was a post-work phenomenon.
- The fastest 5K logged on the day was 12 minutes 56 seconds.
- In the UK, the busiest segment was the Battersea Park half-lap clockwise. Flat. Fast and furious. Or, it can be at times.
- GPS uploads, virtual runs, and manual entries all counted, with a three-day sync window. Only public activities appeared on the leaderboards.
- Athletes could run or walk the distance.
- Completers received a co-branded Strava x Runna badge. New Runna customers unlocked two weeks of Runna Premium, the first direct acquisition funnel the two platforms have run since Strava acquired London-based Runna in 2025.
Take Out
3 June was a Wednesday. The figure would probably be significantly higher, and the run times would be significantly shifted towards the morning were they to rerun the challenge on a Sunday next year.
