parkrun barcode on Garmin – new features

It’s very easy to add your parkrun barcode to either an Apple Watch or most Garmin watches. Here are the instructions on how to add a parkrun barcode app to either Apple or Garmin before I update you on the latest changes

[For 2026] Add parkrun barcode to Apple Watch or Garmin Forerunner/Fenix

The CIQ App developer is called GASTEROPOD. S/he’s recently put out v2 of the parkrun barcode app that now supports your ID and the IDs of 6 more people.

Why?

Perhaps your partner doesn’t wear a watch or perhaps your kids (6 kids!…blimey, well done) don’t even have a watch and none of your family wants to carry a bit of paper or has got around to ordering one of the plastic alternatives that go on your wrist or shoes.

How?

Simply open Garmin’s ConnectIQ app on your smartphone. Look At the settings tab of the ‘parkrun barcode’ CIQ app that you’ve probably already installed. Check settings and then add the extra information, as shown here

More

The developer has also stopped some very naughty people from using his/her parkrun barcode to incorrectly register parkruns all over the world.

My favourite kit and nutrition

  • Maurten — the race nutrition trusted by elite athletes. Gels and drink mix engineered to be easy on the stomach.
  • Garmin 90-degree charging adapter — the small adapter that keeps your charging cable tidy at the stem. Essential for race day.
  • Garmin charging puck — the fastest and most reliable way to top up your Garmin before a session.
  • Ravemen FR300 — front light that mounts directly under your Garmin or Wahoo head unit. Keeps your bars clean and your beam pointed where it matters.
  • Garmin Varia RTL515 — radar rear light that alerts you to vehicles approaching from behind. Pairs with your Edge or Garmin watch.
  • Stryd — the footpod that brings running power to your Garmin. The single most useful running upgrade I have made.
  • Favero Assioma Pro RS2 — the power meter pedals most serious cyclists end up choosing. Accurate, easy to move between bikes.
