Garmin Fenix, Edge, Forerunner Updates Leaked for 2025 Q1
Garmin is getting ready to announce the rollout of some of the features we trailed on this site last year: strength workouts for coach, workout execution score and, finally, the syncing of Body Battery info over Physio TrueUp 2.0.
Strange omissions are the lack of updates for the Fenix 7, 7 Pro, Epix Gen 2 and Epix Gen 2 Pro families. We can only assume they will be added in Q2.
Some notes
- Garmin Passcode – A PIN code is required to enable Garmin PAY, which stays active if the watch is continuously worn. The new PASSCODE functionality could be a theft prevention mechanism or a privacy feature. If the latter, the PASSCODE would be required before any personal data is shown. For example, on the Apple Watch, complications for personal biometrics do not display the information unless bio authentication has already been passed (or a passcode has been entered).
- Workout Execution Score (WES) – I don’t quite know what’s going on here as these were trained and added to the Forerunners last year, missing from the table above. I’ve coincidentally looked at WES a bit over the last month and noted it needs improvement; in my mind, it should focus only on scoring the more important effort periods in intervals and develop a better understanding of how we might run to the start of a structured workout and then run back home at the end – 2 parts of the activity that don’t need scoring.
- Strength Workouts – The strength coach was added to Forerunners in Nov 2024, and the Strength training plan at a similar time. Adaptive Plans also gained explanatory improvements. We now see strength workouts incorporated into Garmin Run Coach and Garmin Cycling Coach.

Perhaps “passcode” could be a TOTP implementation? (What Google Authenticator and the like are doing) That would be a nice continuation of what they started with Garmin Pay, but without the issues of limited bank support. It without not be for everyone, as scrolling through dozens of tokens would be even more annoying on a watch than it already is on a smartphone, but for some people it could be a really valuable addition.
Sooo improved workout execution score has been introduced to 955 last year and yet it doesn’t show it as the lineup with the feature this year.
After ECG was cleared for the EU, but not for Epic/Fenix Pro users, despite the fact that they were once advertised to have the capability, I get the feeling that Garmin wants to “punish” all those pesky Pro users for not upgrading….I know, seems very far fetched, but still…..
i think Garmin needs to come out and say exactly what its feature-rolldown/upgrade process is.
at least with apple you understand pretty clearly even tho i dont think it’s explicitly stated
Nice Find
I see your link to the Garmin PDF no longer works. why to you think Garmin pulled the link?
What is FTP Auto Detection? I thought that this was already there for both my Epix Pro and my Edge 530. Garmin is outerly confusing when it comes to releases. They should rethink their overall strategy if they want to survive

vpier: Garmin make very large profit. Their survival is not in doubt IMHO.
Especially for Fenix 7 pro users it feels like a big money grab. These watches are neither old nor cheap.
Garmin is sending a strange message, that they are happy to take your money for the pro models, but ditch you next year.
A ver concerning message from Garmin, for very expensive kit
its for the shareholders.
apple has a similar message but back ports its latest software as far as it can to older watch models. much fairer. and, of course, less profitable in the short term but it’s the right thing to do
