Huawei Watch GT 6 Quietly Adds Voice-to-Text—Is Translation Next?
Huawei‘s latest update (HarmonyOS 6.0.0.188) for the Watch GT 6 series adds a heart failure risk assessment feature that made the changelog—but there’s another addition the company didn’t announce.
What’s New
The Watch GT 6 now supports voice-to-text transcription in some messaging apps. For example, the WeChat watch app (v1.1.0) lets you speak into your watch and see the transcription to text in real time. However, this functionality is currently limited to specific Asian markets.

Is this a Step Toward Translation like that offered by Apple Watch?
Transcription converts speech to text in the same language—it’s fundamentally about capturing, not translating.
That said, transcription often serves as the foundation for translation in multi-stage systems. If Huawei is building infrastructure to accurately process spoken language on-device, adding translation as a second layer becomes technically feasible, as another prerequisite is now in place.
Huawei is known to have committed to the smartwatch market, allocating significant internal resources to the programme. It’s almost certain that it will proceed in a multi-pronged strategy targeting smart and sport features alike.
For now, it’s a straightforward transcription.
