Garmin Syncs to Peloton – 2-Way ‘sync’ workaround

Garmin Workouts Now Sync to Peloton—But How to Get Peloton Data Back?

The official workout sync between Garmin Connect and Peloton is now live (November 10, 2025). While this one-way synchronisation ensures your outdoor runs and activities recorded on your Garmin device count toward Peloton challenges and milestones, it does not solve a critical problem for serious athletes: Peloton workouts still do not automatically sync back to Garmin Connect. This incomplete data severely compromises your Garmin metrics, including Training Load, VO2 Max, and Recovery. Fortunately, there are tested workarounds to bridge this gap and provide a comprehensive fitness picture.

Official Garmin to Peloton Sync: What It Does (And Doesn’t)

Garmin and Peloton have partnered to integrate a workout sync between the two platforms. This feature is officially limited to a one-way sync and was initially planned for September, but overran slightly.

Why Peloton Needs Garmin Data: Challenges, Load, and Readiness

The immediate, core reason for the link is to ensure Peloton customers get the full credit within the Peloton platform for workouts away from home (outdoor runs, yoga, swims, etc.). Thus, milestones and challenges are kept fully up to date with heart rate, calories, duration, and running/cycling metrics (distance, pace, power if recorded).

Looking further ahead, this will enable the Peloton ecosystem to gain a better understanding of readiness and training load, allowing the company to recommend more effective workouts. This would be even better if they could grab sleep and HRV data from all other sources (e.g., Apple Health).

How to Enable the Garmin to Peloton Sync

If you are familiar with linking apps, there is nothing unusual here, so head over to your Peloton app

  1. In the Peloton App, navigate to You → More (Hamburger Menu).
  2. Select Add-ons → Connected Apps & Devices → Garmin Connect.
  3. Sign in to Garmin Connect and confirm “Send Activities to Peloton”.

The One-Way Constraint: Why Peloton Data Must Go to Garmin Connect

Garmin devotees face a conundrum. Without Peloton data in Garmin, your Garmin ecosystem’s Training Load, VO2 Max, and Recovery metrics are incomplete.

To keep Garmin Connect data up to date and accurate, you currently have to double-record workouts using both the Peloton app and a Garmin device, with a minimum requirement of a Garmin HRM600 chest strap. This is a messy process that can cause data duplication.

Essential Workarounds: Getting Peloton Workouts Back to Garmin

For Peloton users who also rely on Garmin, the only automated way to get a complete picture of your activity is to use a data bridging service. The best one requires a subscription, but it is possible to do for free or manually.

Method Cost Key Feature Best For
SyncMyWorkout Subscription ($25/yr) Merges Peloton data with activity recorded on a Garmin watch for full Training Load impact and VO2 Max calculation. Seamless, full metrics, advanced users who prioritise data completeness.
P2G (Peloton to Garmin) Free/Open Source Automated fetch and upload tool (requires local setup/config). It can mimic a Garmin device for training status. Technical users who prefer a free, configurable script and DIY solutions.
Manual TCX Export Free Uses Strava as an export intermediate, but requires manual file cleanup to fix Garmin compatibility errors (e.g., stripping non-standard tags like <Resistance>). Occasional use, privacy-focused, technically literate users who only need basic metrics.

SyncMyWorkout vs. P2G vs. Manual Export

  • SyncMyWorkout is the most seamless and feature-rich. Its key advantage is the ability to merge a concurrent, basic activity recorded on your Garmin watch with the rich data from Peloton (Power, Cadence, Distance). This merge enables the workout to be fully processed by the Garmin physiology algorithms, allowing for the correct calculation of Training Load, Training Effect, and numerous other metrics.
  • P2G (Peloton to Garmin) is a powerful, free, open-source script. While it requires some technical setup, it is a stable way to automatically push all Peloton workouts directly to Garmin Connect, often accurately applying load metrics by impersonating a supported Garmin device.
